Use your mobile phone as a security camera

This Java app turns the camera in your phone into a security camera by motion detection. It automatically snaps a photo whenever moving objects are detected, then stores it for later spying, uh, surveillance.

 Protect the safety of your property, or, for those living in a nicer area of town, use it as a nature photography tool. Sparrow moves, motion cam goes.

Microsoft has confirmed that it will be introducing a multi-touch facility into its operating system, starting with Windows 7 and that, when Windows 7 is released, it will run alongside version 6.5.

 Talking to The Inquirer website, Microsoft recognised that the lack of multi-touch in the current and new version of Windows Mobile, 6.5, is a problem. In fact, when compared to the market leaders, this one missing element does give the Microsoft operating system an old fashioned hue. However, the facility will be included within Windows 7, apparently.

 A Microsoft spokeman said, rather excitedly, that, “… the software we put in can exploit the hardware, introduce multi-touch and the whole new range of experiences exploiting multitasking capabilities of Windows…. Any of the experiences you see on some of our competitor devices today will be knocked in the different realm.”

 Aditionally, Microsoft confirmed that version 6.5 of the OS will co-exist with Windows 7. The latter is destined to be targeted at high-end phones with the former positioned towards lower specified mobiles.

Research In Motion has let slip details of its future plans for its forthcoming mobile phones along with thoughts regarding its current performance.

 For example, it has discussed the possibility of introducing video conferencing as a standard option for its future mobile handsets via the inclusion of a forward facing camera, built into the chassis. Speaking to the Tiny Comb website, a RIM spokesman said that, “…video conferencing is something that could completely change the mobile landscape and it is something we have been thinking about and working on for quite some time. You will start seeing something early next year”.

 Commenting on the company’s current performance, the same spokesman also admitted that the recently opened Blackberry App World has not been a great success and that the company was losing out to Apple, when the number of Blackberry applications produced is examined as well as the amount of apps being delivered via associated developers. The spokesman commented, “It’s tough when you are going up against a company operating one platform and perfecting a single piece of hardware”.
